Vicenza Jazz: When Music Meets the City

There's a moment that recurs every year when the city of Vicenza transforms. Its Renaissance palaces continue to enchant, but they fill with a new energy, with vibrations and beats that touch the hearts and souls of passersby. It's the moment of Vicenza Jazz, which this year, and for over twenty years, has transformed the Palladian city into a sprawling stage where every corner becomes a theater of emotion.

Between May 15 and 25, 2025, you might find yourself walking along Corso Palladio and listening in the distance to the sound of a double bass resonating between the columns of the Teatro Olimpico. At sunset, the squares light up and the cafés fill with laughter and musicians playing as if the entire city were one great score. Vicenza Jazz is not just a musical event, it is an urban, cultural, and sensorial experience, an invitation to experience the city differently, more slowly, more authentically, letting music inspire and guide you as if it were a compass.

During these annual days, Vicenza seems to offer visitors a new, sprawling stage that makes it all the more captivating. And those who choose to stay here, perhaps just for a weekend, discover that the real spectacle is what happens between concerts, during late-night strolls, in the wonder of jazz combined with the magic of a city ready to welcome guests, travelers, and the curious.

Vicenza Jazz 2025: The edition that makes the city vibrate

We've reached the 29th edition of Vicenza Jazz, New Conversation, the festival directed by Riccardo Brazzale that hosts some of the biggest names in international jazz as well as emerging talents waiting to be discovered. This year's theme is In Praise of Error, a celebration of improvisation and creativity born from imperfection, making every performance a unique and unrepeatable experience.

This year's program promises to be packed with international stars performing in enchanting locations such as the Teatro Olimpico, the Teatro Comunale, the Basilica Palladiana, Palazzo Chiericati, the Church of Santa Corona, and the Cimitero Maggiore. Among the unmissable events are:

  • May 15: Opening with the legendary Kronos Quartet at the Teatro Olimpico, the only Italian date of the tour celebrating the quartet's 50-year career.
  • May 16: Guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola Acoustic Trio, again at the Olimpico.
  • May 17: double date with the Ralph Alessi Trio and the fusion pioneers Yellowjackets at the Teatro Comunale, with concerts spread across the city's museums that combine art and music.
  • May 18 : Solo piano evening with Shai Maestro and Grammy-winning Sullivan Fortner
  • May 20: performance by the versatile guitarist Marc Ribot, followed by the final of the Olimpico Jazz Contest, this year dedicated to drummers in homage to Roy Haynes.
  • May 23: Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan will bring his fusion of jazz and the musical traditions of his homeland
  • May 24: Closing evening with the First Meeting which brings together pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, saxophonist Chris Potter, double bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Eric Garland.
  • May 25: Dawn concert with Irish cellist Naomi Berrill at Villa Guiccioli Park, with a breathtaking view of Vicenza.

Vicenza Jazz isn't just a series of concerts, it's an immersive experience that engages the entire city: during the festival, the streets, squares, bookstores, cafes, and even shops come alive with performances by young talents and established artists, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for everyone. A succession of special events and a breathtaking reimagining of every corner of the city.

All the magic of Vicenza Jazz: art, music, and architecture

Vicenza is much more than a setting for musical events; it's an integral part of the festival. During Vicenza Jazz, every break between concerts is an opportunity to be enchanted by the beauty that inhabits this city.

A stroll through the historic center, amid Palladio's harmonious geometry and the hidden details that tell ancient stories, will be like a melody resonating in the soul. The Basilica Palladiana, the Teatro Olimpico, the elegant piazzas where time seems to slow down: everything vibrates in unison with the rhythm of the festival. There will be no shortage of delicious stops at authentic taverns, glasses of wine, and Vicenza specialties, all to be savored while saxophones echo in the distance. Vicenza is a refined yet not distant city; it is welcoming, intimate, and perfect for stirring emotions.
