This natural complex is located a short distance from Treviso and consists of a series of rock cavities naturally carved by the Caglieron River over at least 10 million years, alternating with other artificial caves from which sandstone, known as Piera dolza (soft stone), was quarried around 1500.
As soon as you arrive, you descend the path and notice the air taking on a different aspect: it becomes fresh, humid, and scented with moss. The natural gorge carved by the Caglieron stream is truly captivating, but even more fascinating is the unique interplay between nature and man. Here, for centuries, local stonemasons have quarried the soft sandstone used to build the doorposts and lintels of the most beautiful homes in Vittorio Veneto and the surrounding area.
