The story of a stay that will remain in your heart . Discover our stay in a romantic attic in Veronetta: a hidden corner among the rooftops of Verona where you can fall in love with the city.
Some places speak for themselves. Just open a window and you'll fall in love with a city. And it's not hard to fall in love with Verona : the city of love par excellence. A city brimming with art, music, theater, and literature, with many young people and students, but also families and locals who live daily within these ancient walls, brimming with movement and life.
It happened to us one June afternoon, when we fell in love with Verona. Precisely when we arrived in that attic hidden among the rooftops of Veronetta , we had no idea that a simple terrace could give us the atmosphere of a French film.
This is why we decided to tell the story of Verona from this perspective, because for us Verona was this : a gentle discovery, made of distant voices, the smell of warm bread in the morning, and the birdsong that woke us on a little terrace among the rooftops.
In that attic in the heart of Veronetta, we could see the sky from the skylight above the bed, and as soon as we woke, all we had to do was throw open the windows to let in all the daylight, which, warm and soft, cinematically illuminated the interior of the apartment all to ourselves.
That little balcony was our first good morning in Verona , the breakfast table, the silent observation point, the private terrace on the world.
And maybe that's where we started to feel at home.
Veronetta: young, vibrant, and authentic Verona
Veronetta isn't the picture-postcard Verona. Yet, or perhaps precisely because of this, it was the part of the city that made us fall in love the most.
Just outside the historic center, crossing the Ponte Nuovo or Ponte Pietra , you find yourself in a residential neighborhood that's a bit bohemian , a bit student-centric, but also incredibly authentic. There's no rush of hit-and-run tourism : people really live here, and you can tell by the greetings they exchange on the street, the bicycles parked in front of their doors, the historic shops offering you a smile along with your coffee.
Veronetta is full of small shops, greengrocers, bakeries, delis, and taverns with checked tablecloths, just like in a movie set in Italy. You can move around on foot, slowly, feeling part of a living, breathing fabric , without needing maps or itineraries. Every corner seems to tell a story.
Just a few steps from the apartment is the Roman Theater : a stone marvel, often overshadowed by the fame of the Arena, but offering magical evenings among its terraces overlooking the river. And then there's the Giusti Garden , with its orderly paths and that priceless view of the city. A quiet, green corner, perfect for losing yourself for an hour or two.
Veronetta is the place where you can feel the city on your skin, but without the rush.
It's the perfect spot for those traveling on foot, because everything is close by: the station, the city center, and above all, the true essence of Verona.
A bright attic among the red roofs of Verona
This attic, with its simplicity and welcoming atmosphere, has a story to tell. As soon as you open the door, the first thing that greets you is light, but not a bright one, a vibrant, soft, and warm light that enters from every side—skylights, windows, and a small balcony—and casts reflections on the light-colored parquet floors, the wood of the kitchen, and the colorful sofa cushions. An attic suitable for those of average height, let's say, but it's not at all suffocating or cramped, as you might imagine. The feeling here is one of spaciousness. The wooden ceiling adds warmth, but the windows make everything airy and cool. Every corner is designed to make you feel welcome: it's the kind of home where you kick off your shoes at the entrance and sit down with a book and a steaming cup in your hands.
The kitchen is large and bright, and the absolute convenience is that it opens onto the balcony; so it's easy to take breakfast or dinner outside. It's a kitchen that invites you to enjoy it, to cook something simple together, perhaps with fresh vegetables from the local grocery store.
It has everything you need, but also something more: the little details you don't expect , a well-stocked spice set, a vintage enamel teapot, colorful tea towels that look like they came from a Parisian flea market.
The balcony is a chapter in itself. Perched between the rooftops, cozy yet open to the sky , it's where we had breakfast every morning, with the sound of birds chirping in the background given the quiet location —one of those things you get used to. You can hear the city awakening and realize you're exactly where you want to be.
The bedroom is a simple, quiet nest , with a skylight above the bed that opens onto a star-filled sky at night. It's hard to explain the feeling of falling asleep watching the moon filter through there: romantic, certainly, but also deeply relaxing, as if the world could stay outside a little longer.
There's an extra room, small and charming, for three people traveling together, and the bathroom deserves a special mention, with its alternative design, wall prints, and colorful ceramics. The overall decor is a dynamic and youthful mix , featuring alternative design pieces, prints, and colors that surprise you, like the green on the kitchen walls, but that never clash, but lend a sense of lightness. The poetic imperfection of real things.
What matters, for us who travel slowly and want to enjoy the reality of each place , is that the house is livable, but here we found much more than that, we found a place where our heart beats.
An old-fashioned building in the heart of Veronetta
The building itself, we remember well, features an elegant façade and small, time-worn gardens, with wrought-iron railings that speak of an era when even simple things were made to last. The building is ancient, quiet, with the discreet charm of homes that have seen the passing of the seasons without ever losing their soul.
We were told that once, right beneath these windows, a canal, now filled in, flowed, bringing water and movement to the city's oldest neighborhood. Today, it remains only a memory, preserved among red bricks, internal courtyards, solid wood doors, and arched windows. A romantic setting for a place that exists outside of time and that, I can't believe, is within reach of anyone who wants to stay here, even just for a weekend.
Outside the building, you'll find all kinds of services , from a bakery to a greengrocer, as well as the neighborhood supermarket where you can find a little bit of everything, even the things you don't need. The atmosphere immediately felt familiar, where we shopped as if we'd always lived there, leisurely choosing our tomatoes and listening to the chatter of the neighborhood ladies. Stress-free, following the rhythm of the day. You don't need a car or to rush to catch the train: the station is well-connected, and walking around Veronetta is a pleasure.
Every day we found a new corner: an independent bookshop, a small tavern, a quiet square with children playing. In the afternoon, we simply crossed the bridge to find ourselves in the historic center, among the monumental squares and cobblestone streets, but always with the freedom to return home, to our little world suspended among the rooftops.
Verona: a city within your home
We fell in love with Verona step by step, but perhaps it was that attic, that skylight above the bed, that little terrace overlooking the rooftops that made it all the more unforgettable. After all, that's what a rental apartment is supposed to do: make you feel at home even when you're away from home . And the chic attic with balcony made us feel as if the city were right at home, fully and unforgettablely experienced.
And to think that this apartment is available to other people, for other lives , heartens me because I can hope it can make others fall in love with this city as it did with us. We will never forget that June afternoon when we opened that door, stepped barefoot onto the parquet floor, and saw the greenery outside the window right above the sofa. It will be a memory all ours to cherish.
