A journey to the peaks: the DXT 55k
The Dolomiti Extreme Trail is an international trail race held in the Dolomites, specifically in the Zoldo Valley. Among the six races offered, including 11, 22, and 35k, the 55k stands out for its balance of challenge and beauty. With an elevation gain of approximately 3,800 meters and a maximum time of 15 hours, this route is designed for those who want to test themselves without tackling the extreme distances of the longer 72k and 103km races along the Anello Zoldano trails, a particularly popular trekking route among hikers.
The starting village, Forno di Zoldo, is located at 850 meters above sea level. The race begins gently, winding along the Pratoront and Pralongo plains before climbing towards the Vach lake, which serves as a junction with the other routes. From here, the route continues beneath the slopes of Monte San Sebastiano to the Duran Pass, where the most technical section of the course begins.
Participants then tackle the toughest climb to the Grisetti Bivouac (2,050 m above sea level), the descent to Malga Grava, the crossing of the scree slopes of Monte Civetta, and the passage to the highest point of the route, the Busa del Zuiton (2,350 m above sea level). After refreshments at the Coldai Refuge, the descent to Malga Pioda and the continuation to the Belvedere Refuge, before reaching the Passo Staulanza base camp (km 39). The final section of the route leads over the Tamai Pass and Monte Punta, offering spectacular views of the Zoldo Dolomites, before the final descent to Forno di Zoldo.
Val di Zoldo: a corner of paradise
The Zoldo Valley , nestled in the Dolomites, is a place where nature reigns supreme. Far from mass tourism, this valley has retained its wild charm and offers landscapes ranging from ancient forests and unique rock formations to vast scree slopes and crystal-clear streams. The peaks surrounding the valley, such as Mount Pelmo and Mount Civetta, are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Forno di Zoldo, home to the DXT Village , is also the beating heart of the event. Here, athletes and visitors can experience the authentic atmosphere of a mountain community eager to share this experience with the athletes. From the more than 300 volunteers involved to the mountain huts and hospitality staff, this event amply demonstrates the villagers' dedication and commitment to the event. Upon arrival, a pasta party and all the necessary services are planned to celebrate participants and onlookers.
