The magic of the forest: the breath of the trees

Crossing the border into Trentino, an easy trail through a dense forest blanketed in snow in winter. This stretch of the Lavarone plateau overlooks the Centa Valley and the Alta Valsugana . This is a captivating snowshoeing itinerary. Starting in Lavarone, the heart of the Alpe Cimbra, this themed trail is enriched by works of art and overlooks Lake Caldonazzo.

The theme of the trail is wood, expressed through bark, earth, and stones that intertwine and tell a story that intertwines art and nature. This first Lavarone trail, called " The Breath of the Trees," will allow you to see this plateau from a different perspective and enjoy a fulfilling experience in contact with nature.

The wonder of the three peaks: the Auronzo Refuge from Lake Antorno

There's no more breathtaking sight in any season than the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, but in winter these mountains reveal their most authentic and undeniable charm. With the arrival of snow, the panorama that opens before your eyes is unlike any other. This route allows you to admire the Tre Cime from the southern side , namely the Venetian side of Auronzo di Cadore.

To reach the Auronzo Refuge, simply take the path that starts from Lake Antorno at 1880 m above sea level and very close to Lake Misurina. It follows the Panoramic Road of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo , which is closed to traffic in winter, making it a wide path often used by snowmobiles.

After a heavy snowfall, the scenery along the Malga Rin Bianco mountain hut has something of a fairytale, enchanting. The climb is entirely exposed to the sun and breeze, with the majestic peaks watching over the road. The refuge is located at 2,333 meters above sea level and is open on weekends during the winter season. From the refuge, you can admire the Cadini di Misurina, Monte Piana, and Monte Cristallo in all their magnificence.

The unmissable excursion: Cortina d'Ampezzo

This is the famous and popular hike to the Palmieri Croda da Lago Refuge , one of the best in any season, but in snow it becomes unparalleled. The Palmieri Refuge is reached via Malga Federa, starting in Cortina d'Ampezzo near Lake Pianozes. The elevation gain reaches 850 meters near the refuge, for a total hike of about three hours in winter, but it's not particularly difficult and requires only good physical preparation and stamina.

Park your car at Campo di Sotto and get ready to set off: to Malga Federa, continue along the snowmobile road. The road climbs slowly up to the Malga, and the view becomes increasingly impressive. You can also decide to stop and relax inside the refuge, but if you continue, you can reach the Rifugio Palmieri Croda da Lago at 2,046 meters above sea level and admire the frozen Lake Federa as well as a complete view of the Ampezzo valley, framed by Mounts Cristallo, Sorapiss, and Antelao.

A historic snowshoe hike to Monte Piana

Still near Misurina, you can take the winter trail that leads to Monte Piana and reach the Bosi Refuge at 2,205 meters above sea level, in the Auronzo di Cadore . This area was the scene of battles during World War II, a place of immeasurable historical and natural value. Parking is located near Misurina at the Genzianella restaurant and bar, from which you can take the path on the left that leads to the Bosi Refuge.

The first stretch is through the woods, but in some places you emerge from the forest to admire breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains. The trail branches off along the military road that leads to the Bosi Refuge, offering views of the Cadini di Misurina and Lake Antorno. The hike, with a total elevation gain of 500 meters, offers a walk in the crisp, high-altitude air.
