For months we'd been talking about organizing a getaway together, looking for an excuse, this early autumn, to live an unforgettable experience without compromise.
We wanted to leave together and stay together without separating even at night, and the perfect opportunity came with a concert at the Verona Arena . Six friends, with a last-minute addition, decided to treat themselves to a weekend of music, laughter, and good food.
We just needed the right place : a place that would make us feel at home. That's why we chose something other than the classic, impersonal hotel. We found Casa ai Lavatoi , an entire house just outside the city of Verona.
A location that leaves you speechless and breathless
As soon as they arrived, they were struck by the little square overlooking the house: quiet, picturesque, with that ancient stone sink that tells stories of a time when laundry was truly washed outdoors. A setting that immediately gave the group the feeling of being in a special place , almost suspended between past and present.
After checking in and a few laughs about having to show all our documents, which made the whole thing feel a bit like a school trip, everyone chose their own room. The house, with its three floors , proved to be perfect: two double bedrooms for couples, two smaller bedrooms for those seeking independence, and a living room with a sofa bed ready to accommodate the newest arrival.
The house was evidently recently renovated to a very high standard with a style that blends the charm of period homes with modern, functional and well-finished furniture.
The kitchen was spacious and welcoming and quickly became the center of the evening. We stopped at a small supermarket nearby and, instead of going out, decided to have dinner "at home." A large table, wine glasses already set, and the satisfaction of cooking together: a quick plate of pasta, a couple of bottles of Valpolicella, and that was it. With some sharing anecdotes from the week and others playing DJ with background music, the evening flowed by as if we were truly residents of that house.
The home's furnishings made us feel immediately at ease: elegant yet not cold, with carefully considered clean lines. Surfaces reflect light, furnishings show no signs of wear, and bathrooms are practically new.
Living in a house in Verona
Saturday morning began calmly: some went down to the laundry area to quickly put away their clothes, others took advantage of the living room with the TV on for a bit of relaxation. The kitchen was the real center of attention: coffee pot on the stove, some were slicing fruit, others were making sandwiches to go. The 150-square-meter house gave everyone the space to do what they wanted without ever feeling cramped.
The convenience of having two main bathrooms proved invaluable : with seven people ready to go, having multiple showers available avoided endless queues and nerves.
After the concert, returning to Casa ai Lavatoi was like returning to a safe haven. The city was still bustling with voices, lights, and life, but once the door was closed, the silence of the little square and the intimate atmosphere of the house gave the feeling of a private bubble.
Some stayed to chat a bit longer in the living room, a drink in hand and feet up on the couch, and some collapsed right into bed. The beauty was knowing that the next day we'd still have a few hours to spend together, without the rush of having to leave the city immediately.
An experience in Verona that leaves a mark: leaving was not easy
So, after a slow Sunday morning breakfast, with the sun filtering through the large windows and the thought of not wanting to leave just yet, we tidied up the rooms and packed our bags, intending to explore the Verona , particularly a stop at Lake Garda. The house had been the backdrop for every moment : from shared meals to getting ready, from laughter to late-night chatter.
As we closed the door, someone laughed, “ We’ll almost come back here next time, even without the concert .” And it was ultimately true: Verona had been wonderful , but what made it truly special was feeling part of a home that wasn’t ours, yet it became ours.
Book Casa ai Lavatoi now to enjoy an unforgettable experience in the city of love.
