These events are perfect for enriching your trip to Verona: all summer long, you can enjoy a weekend in the city, strolling through the most beautiful alleys and squares, enjoying an aperitivo, and then enjoying a unique show, letting yourself be moved by pure art in motion. Here are the key events of this festival, the ones you absolutely can't miss and which will remain memorable and indelible in your heart.

A scenario without comparison in the world

It's true that this event takes place in a truly exceptional location. TheVerona Arena is one of the best-preserved Roman structures in the world. Built in the 1st century AD, it can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators and conveys the same vibes as 2,000 years ago, when gladiatorial spectacles still resonate within the ancient walls. Today, the world's most beautiful voices perform in extraordinary works that deeply move the audience.

The Arena's operatic tradition has deep roots: the first opera performance dates back to 1913, when tenor Giovanni Zenatello proposed inaugurating the Verdi centenary celebrations here, with Aida. Since then, this tradition has never been interrupted, even during the most difficult periods of the twentieth century. It's no coincidence that today the festival is considered one of the most important cultural events in the world.

In this case, Verona is much more than a venue for the Festival: it is the foundation that has hosted a unique theatrical festival for over 100 years, forming part of it and permeating it in a sensational way. The streets of Verona, its monuments, its historic buildings— everything resonates with music and culture , and the sound of the beauty of these works continues to resonate within its walls, like an enduring song. The event is welcomed throughout the city as a unique spectacle that highlights the city's value.

The 2026 program: works that never disappoint

The scheduled performances are major productions ranging from Verdi to Puccini, with historical productions and new scenic visions alternating on Italy's most beautiful stage. The festival opens with La Traviata on June 12th and 13th , with a new contemporary production inspired by the Moulin Rouge in Paris. The world's most beloved opera opens the season in a new way: a completely new visual experience for an opera that has always thrilled.

This is followedCrystal Aida , a minimalist and visionary version that begins on June 19th and alternates with the seven dates ofAida , featuring the original costumes and stage sets that have made the Arena famous throughout the world.

AttendingAida here is an experience that belongs to the list of things to do at least once in a lifetime.

Also not to be missed is Nabucco , with its grand choruses, dramatic power, and text about freedom and identity. Nabucco is certainly one of the most powerful performances on the program; just imagine the Chorus of Slaves' famous aria, "Va' pensiero," sung outdoors under the Verona sky: an unparalleled experience.

There is no shortage of Puccini's beauties, La Bohème which celebrates 130 years since its world premiere in Turin in 1896 under the direction of Arturo Toscanini, and Turandot, the true pearl of this programme which celebrates 100 years since the first performance of the opera with Zeffirelli's fairytale staging and costumes designed by Oscar winner Eli Wada.

TheArena Opera Festival 2026 isn't just about opera. The program includes evenings designed for those who want to gradually approach great music. Or Carmina Burana 's Carl Orff, a 20th-century choral powerhouse, on August 13th.

Another epochal event of extraordinary power is the Paganini Paradise – Superlive Immersive Concert , which will be held on August 18th as a world premiere, featuring the music of Niccolò Paganini blending with immersive, three-dimensional scenography designed by Balich Wonder Studio, in a concert that redefines the boundary between classical music and multimedia entertainment.
